EPA considers some leftover household products that can catch fire, react, or explode under certain circumstances, or that are corrosive or toxic as household hazardous waste. Products, such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides can contain hazardous ingredients and require special care when you dispose of them.
Many of these products are labeled: TOXIC, FLAMMABLE, CORROSIVE, REACTIVE, INFECTIOUS, HAZARDOUS OR DANGEROUS.
DO NOT place HHW items in your normal garbage or pour them down the drain. When HHW is disposed of improperly, sanitation workers can be injured, explosions can occur due to chemical reactions and waterbodies can become contaminated.
Yamhill County Solid Waste hosts FREE HHW Collection Events to residents of Yamhill County twice a year: Newberg in the spring and McMinnville in the fall. More events may be added as needed.
Pre-registration is required for all events; post cards are mailed to notify residents of when the signup is available. If you would like to be placed on the email list to be notified of these events, please email [email protected] with your information.
Due to the limited hours and set available pre-registration appointments for these events, please try to utilize local businesses that accept certain HHW year-round. Residents may combine loads for these events at their own discretion; please be aware of possible chemical interactions with other items, water or even air. Additionally, larger loads may fall under DOT regulations.
