Sheriff's Office Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in supporting your community, I invite you to consider the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office as your first choice for volunteer opportunies. The Volunteer Program consists of multiple teams that are overseen by a YCSO staff member. These Volunteer Teams are listed below along with the types of opportunities that are associated with each. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please fill out and submit the Volunteer/Internship Application, unless otherwise indicated (i.e., Reserves). The online form can be completed and submitted via the Volgistics secure portal - nothing for you to print or mail!

Volunteer Response Unit

A program where volunteers receive patrol and response training for active use in the field. Opportunities include:

  • Crime Scene Containment
  • Special Events
  • Crime Prevention
  • Citizen Patrols
  • Emergency/Disaster Assistance
  • Non-criminal Transport
  • Training/Academy

Cadet Volunteers

A program for youth interested in learning more about or having a career in law enforcement. Program includes academic learning opportunities with limited field application. Opportunities include:

  • Law Enforcement Training
  • Special Events
  • Community Service
  • Crime Prevention

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.  (Monthly meetings and events)  Must complete CERT training requirements.

Patrol Reserve Volunteers

This program is for those volunteers who are over the age of 21 and interested in receiving extensive training in law enforcement. This is often used as a stepping-stone toward being a sworn deputy and requires a separate application as noted here. Opportunities include:

  • Law Enforcement Training
  • Report writing
  • Patrols
  • On-call response

Administrative Volunteers

A program where volunteers assist within the administration of the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, working directly with support personnel. Opportunities include:

  • Civil processing
  • Records filing
  • Customer service
  • Meeting preparation
  • Dog Control
  • Evidence handling
  • Phone Reception
  • Supply Assistance
  • Fingerprinting

Amateur Radio Volunteers


A program that provides amateur radio emergency services to the community. Opportunities include:

  • Communications Assistance
  • Relay Support
  • Emergency/Disaster Assistance

Mounted Posse Volunteers

 

This program utilizes equestrian riders to assist in the field. Opportunities include:

  • Parade appearances
  • Mounted Searches
  • Periodic patrols

Search and Rescue Volunteers


This program provides search and rescue training for activities within the county and state. Opportunities include:

  • On-call search and rescue response
  • Missing person searches
  • S & R Dog handling
  • Cadaver recovery
