Visitation Policy
The Yamhill County Juvenile Detention encourages visitation between parents or guardians and detained juveniles and has regularly scheduled visitation times for that purpose.
Detained youth are eligible for personal visits only after completing the orientation process. Detained youth are eligible for professional visits upon completing the admissions process. Only parents and guardian are allowed to visit juveniles in detention during regular visiting days and times. Exceptions to visiting policy are approved by the Juvenile Department Manager or the Detention Supervisor or designee. All personal and professional visitors are identified by picture identification. All visitors and their property are subject to search.
A juvenile may refuse or terminate a visit at any time. Any visit may be terminated at the discretion of the Detention Staff if rules governing the visitation are violated or safety or security is jeopardized. All personal visitors are required to check all purse, bags, and metal pocket contents in the lockers provided.
No one under the age of eighteen will be allowed to visit. All visits are authorized by the Probation/Parole Officer or Case Worker, Juvenile Department Manager, Detention Supervisor or designee. Personal visits will be held in the Visiting Room unless circumstances dictate a change which must be authorized by the Detention Supervisor or designee.
Visitation Procedures
All visitors will check in with Detention Staff via the intercom system at the visitor’s exterior door, identify themselves, and identify who they wish to visit. Detention Staff will verify the visitor by checking the name given at the exterior door with the youth’s visitor log and the youth’s file. If the person identified is not verified through the youth’s visitor log or the youth’s file, the person is denied the visit. If the visitor is verified as being on the visitation log, Detention Staff will ask the visitor if they have picture identification. If the visitor does not have picture identification, the visit is denied until picture identification is produced. If the visitor has picture identification in their possession, Detention Staff will advise the visitor to enter the building, secure their belongings in the locker provided and advance to the top of the stairs with their picture identification. Detention Staff will check the visitor’s picture identification to visually verify the visitor’s identity. Personal visitor(s) are escorted into the secure Visitor’s Room for the visit.
