Small Grants Program

The OWEB Small Grants Program offers landowners an opportunity to implement conservation measures on their land with the help of a local group such as a watershed council or SWCD. The program started in 2001 with $100,000, which was distributed for projects in Yamhill, Polk, and part of Benton County.

Small Grant Application Guidelines

Projects may not exceed $10,000 in OWEB funds, and applicants must show 25% in matching funds from other sources (either cash or in-kind services). The following types of projects are permissable:

  • Agricultural Project Types

    • Off-stream water provision for livestock
    • Livestock management activities that result in enhanced vegetation and productivity
    • Conservation practices that reduce nutrients and sediments from entering water bodies
    • Control measures designed to reduce or mitigate stormwater or irrigation runoff
    • Native fish habitat improvement and removal of fish passage barriers

  • Forestry Project Types
    • Rehabilitation or restoration activities along streams and water bodies, primarily vegetation establishment and management. Includes weed control
    • Afforestation to native stands for lands not under Forest Practices Act requirements for reforestation
    • Livestock management activities that result in enhanced vegetation and productivity

    • Control measures designed to reduce or mitigate stormwater or irrigation runoff
    • Native fish habitat improvement and removal of fish passage barriers
    • Forest improvement for watershed health, including interplanting of existing forest stands with native species for greater diversity

  • Urban and Rural Residential Project Types
    • Rehabilitation or restoration activities along streams and water bodies, primarily vegetation establishment and management. Includes weed control

    • Conservation practices that reduce nutrients and sediments from entering water bodies
    • Control measures designed to reduce or mitigate stormwater or irrigation runoff
    • Native fish habitat improvement and removal of fish passage barriers
