Small Grants Program
The OWEB Small Grants Program offers landowners an opportunity
to implement conservation measures on their land with the help of a
local group such as a watershed council or SWCD. The
program started in 2001 with $100,000, which was distributed for projects
in Yamhill, Polk, and part of Benton County.
Small Grant Application Guidelines
Projects may not exceed $10,000 in OWEB funds, and applicants
must show 25% in matching funds from other sources (either cash or in-kind
services). The following types of projects are permissable:
- Agricultural Project Types
- Rehabilitation or restoration activities along streams and water
bodies, primarily vegetation establishment and management. Includes
weed control
- Off-stream water provision for livestock
- Livestock management activities that result in enhanced vegetation
and productivity
- Conservation practices that reduce nutrients and sediments
from entering water bodies
- Control measures designed to reduce or mitigate stormwater
or irrigation runoff
- Native fish habitat improvement and removal of fish passage
barriers
- Forestry Project Types
- Rehabilitation or restoration activities along streams and water
bodies, primarily vegetation establishment and management. Includes
weed control
- Afforestation to native stands for lands not under Forest Practices
Act requirements for reforestation
- Livestock management activities that result in enhanced vegetation
and productivity
- Conservation practices that reduce nutrients and sediments
from entering water bodies
- Control measures designed to reduce or mitigate stormwater
or irrigation runoff
- Native fish habitat improvement and removal of fish passage
barriers
- Forest improvement for watershed health, including interplanting
of existing forest stands with native species for greater diversity
- Urban and Rural Residential Project Types
- Rehabilitation or restoration activities along streams and water
bodies, primarily vegetation establishment and management. Includes
weed control
- Off-stream livestock watering and pasture management to maintain
high vegetation production which reduces surface runoff of excess
water and nutrients. Includes management of manure and other nutrients
- Conservation practices that reduce nutrients and sediments
from entering water bodies
- Control measures designed to reduce or mitigate stormwater
or irrigation runoff
- Native fish habitat improvement and removal of fish passage
barriers
