                      H1N1 Influenza A, Swine Flu Outbreak

Yamhill County Public Health (YCPH) is actively monitoring the swine flu situation, as well as preparing our healthcare providers and educating the public. For up to date information please visit www.flu.oregon.gov

Public Health agencies have been planning at federal, state and local levels for several years for situations such as this.

Illness caused by this new strain of flu has the same symptoms as illness caused by other strains of flu including fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, and can include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

There are three important steps we can all take to make sure the flu doesn’t spread:
1. Protect yourself and others by washing your hands often;
2. Cover your mouth with something other than your hand when you cough,
3. If you are sick, go see your doctor but otherwise try not to go out and expose others to your illness.

Your health care provider will determine whether influenza testing or treatment is needed. Swine influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. You cannot get swine influenza from eating pork products. This is a rapidly evolving situation and guidance should be considered interim and updated as necessary. CDC will provide new information as it becomes available.

For more information, you can visit the following CDC website about swine flu infections in people. It will be updated daily: www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/index.htm
