Contract Cities

Your Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) is responsible for law enforcement services throughout the 718 square miles of the county. Municipal police departments, such as Amity, Carlton, McMinnville, Newberg-Dundee, and Yamhill regularly patrol their own cities and YCSO provides supplemental support to those agencies.

Pursuant to ORS 190.010 and 206.345, your Sheriff’s Office also provides contractual law enforcement services for the cities of Dayton, Lafayette, Sheridan, and Willamina. The contract, established in partnership with each city government, funds police services and all general law enforcement services at levels established in the respective contract for each city. Each city benefits from the following services: communications dispatch, records and statistical data, civil services, evidence collection and storage, processing and service of warrants, as well as drug enforcement and interdictions. In addition, contract cities benefit from the YCSO membership on the Yamhill County Interagency Narcotics Team (YCINT), as well as the Major Crime Response Team (MCRT).

Dayton
The City of Dayton, with a population of 2,500, first contracted with YCSO in 1987. The Sheriff’s Office provides full law enforcement logistical support for the City of Dayton in the form of one full-time deputy and additional on-duty deputies assisting as needed to provide public safety, criminal law enforcement, issuing of citations based on City ordinances, traffic enforcement, preparation of police reports and/or attendance at council meetings, and related services.

Lafayette
The City of Lafayette and its 3,750 citizens benefit from the services of two full-time patrol deputies as well as additional patrols for emergency coverage. YCSO services include public safety, criminal law enforcement, issuing of citations based on City ordinances, traffic enforcement, preparation of police reports and/or attendance at council meetings, and related services.

Sheridan
The city of Sheridan, population 6,000, supports three full-time patrol deputies. First contracted in January 1990, the YCSO support of the city includes public safety, criminal law enforcement, issuing of citations based on City ordinances, traffic enforcement, preparation of police reports and/or attendance at council meetings, collection of dog license fees, and a half-time School Resource Officer.

Willamina
The city of Willamina, which sits in both Yamhill and Polk counties, has contracted with the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office since 1993 and currently contracts for public safety, criminal law enforcement, issuing of citations based on City ordinances, traffic enforcement, preparation of police reports and/or attendance at council meetings, collection of dog license fees, and related services.
