County ServicesAssessor & Tax CollectorResponsible for discovering, listing, and valuing all real and personal properties, mobile homes, and utilities for property tax purposes. Part of the General Government Program (see below). Clerk Provides marriage licenses, filings, voter registrations, passports, elections, Board of Property Tax Appeals (BOPTA), and county business licenses. Part of the General Government Program (see below). Board of Commissioners Manages the business affairs of the county. Part of the General Government Program (see below). District Attorney Prosecutes crimes under state laws, including felony and misdemeanor crimes in the District and Circuit Courts. Part of the Criminal Justice Program (see below). Juvenile Department Responsible for handling all police reports for crimes and violations committed by juveniles under the age of 18. Services include: prevention programs, assessment, referral, court, community service, detention, and probation supervision. Part of the Criminal Justice Program (see below). Sheriff Responsible for law enforcement services for citizens of the county, maintains correctional and detention facilities, provides contractual law enforcement services to various cities, investigates crimes, provides traffic enforcement and civil services. Part of the Criminal Justice Program (see below). Surveyor Files and indexes property survey records, maintains government survey corners, checks subdivision and partition plats. Part of the Land Use Program (see below). Treasurer Receives all county monies, posts receipts to funds, distributes taxes, maintains bank accounts and county investments, prepares reports on cash and bank balances.
