Board of Commissioners 

There are three Yamhill County Commissioners who are elected to serve terms of four years each.
Kathy George - Chairpicture of commissioner Lewis
Kathy is serving in her first term as County Commissioner. Her responsibilities include: Community Corrections Department, District Attorney's Office, Dog Control Advisory Board, Employee Health Benefits Committee, Housing Authority Board, Juvenile Department, Newberg Landfill Steering Committee, Planning Commission, Planning Department, Sheriff's Office, Solid Waste Advisory Committee, Veterans Services and Yamhill County Historical Society.

Mary P. Stern - Vice Chair picture of commissioner Lewis
Mary Stern was born and raised in Waltham, Massachusetts, a western suburb of Boston. Mary graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State College in 1981. She received her Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School in 1991. After graduating from law school, Mary was selected by the U.S. Department of Justice as an Honors Attorney and was assigned to the Federal Bureau of Prisons' Western Regional Office. In August of 1992, she transferred to the Federal Correctional Institution in Sheridan, Oregon, where she served as the Attorney Advisor; she later served as the Executive Assistant to the Warden. Mary left the prison in 1998 to work at the U.S. District Court in Portland. In June of 2001, Mary became a self-employed consultant, most recently handling resident relations for Hillside Retirement Community in McMinnville until January of 2002.

Mary and her husband, Matt, live in McMinnville where they are raising their daughter, Sydney. Mary has been involved on the boards of Arts Alliance of Yamhill County, Hillside Communities, and the Tiny Tots Club. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, Mary currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation and YCAP.

Mary is serving her first term as a county commissioner. Her responsibilities include: Assessor's Office, Board of Property Tax Appeals, Board of Review for Agriculture Land Assessment, Clerk's Office, Commission on Children and Families, County Property Management/Facilities Committee, Employee Safety Advisory Committee, Family Law Advisory Committee, Health and Human Services Department, Information Systems/GIS Department, Korean Trade Relationship, Local Alcohol and Drug Planning Council, National Association of Counties, Park and Recreation Board, Resource Conservation and Development District, Soil and Water Conservation District, Tribal Governments in Oregon, Mid-Willamette River Connections Project, Yamhill County Circuit and Municipal Courts, Yamhill County Cultural Coalition Planning Committee and Yamhill Visitors Association.

Leslie Lewis – Commissioner picture of commissioner Lewis

Commissioner Lewis, a lifelong Oregonian, was born and raised in Medford. Leslie graduated from Oregon State University in 1975 with a B.S. degree in Biochemistry-Biophysics. Her work experience includes almost five years with Intel Corporation in manufacturing engineering. Since 1983, Leslie and her husband, Don have owned an electronics manufacturing company. Their business, called Uptime Technology, Inc., has been located in Newberg since 1987.

Leslie was appointed to the Yamhill County Planning Commission in 1990, serving for over 10 years. In 1994, she was elected to the Oregon Legislature as a State Representative. During her third and final term, Leslie was Co-Chair of the Joint Ways and Means Committee, responsible for the entire state’s budget for all state agencies. Leslie also served as Co-Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, Chair of the House Environment and Energy Committee, and as a member of numerous committees, including House Revenue and House Judiciary.

Leslie and her husband Don were married in 1974, live near Carlton, and manage their small woodland tree farm.

Leslie is serving in her first term as County Commissioner. Her responsibilities include: Administrative Services Department, Emergency Management, Fair Board, Labor Negotiations, Public Works Department, Road Improvement Advisory Committee, Special Transportation Advisory Commission, Surveyor, Treasurer's Office and Yamhill Transportation Committee.
