Drinking Water program
DHS Drinking Water Program
The state has the responsibility to administer and enforce drinking water quality standards for public water
systems in the State of Oregon.
The state contracts with local county health departments to carry out elements of the drinking water program.
The primary goal of the county drinking water program is to improve the compliance with drinking water standards by
community water systems serving 3,300 or fewer people and using only groundwater sources, and by all nontransient and
noncommunity water systems, regardless of source type under county jurisdiction.
